As you drive through the heart of our community on 135th Street, look across the street from Martin City Brewing Company and you’ll see the sign pointing south to Pearce Construction. Turn down the tree-lined driveway and you’ll arrive at the company’s headquarters, an enduring landmark at 417 East 135th Street. Pearce Construction is marking 70 years in business in 2023, and we’re honored by the fact that many of those years have been in our neighborhood.
“Pearce Construction was established in 1953. We’ve been in Martin City for more than two decades,” explains Pearce President and CEO Darin Heyen. “That’s the typical way we direct people to our offices. We tell them we’re in Martin City because everybody knows where Martin City is.”

This 1950s building renovation will include an expanded gathering area in the lobby, two new multi-stall restrooms to replace an existing single-stall bathroom, a new coffee bar, new classrooms, new HVAC, new windows, a renovated nursery and staff offices and improved lower-level environments. Read MoreIn partnership with DRAW Architecture + Urban Design, Pearce Construction recently completed an interior renovation of The New Reform Temple of Kansas City, the first in this 53-year-old facility’s history. This renovation includes an addition of a new vestibule and trellis canopy, an extensive sanctuary renovation, the addition of an elevator, upgraded Audio-Visual capabilities, upgraded HVAC, windows, electrical system, security and sprinkler installation. The sanctuary renovation includes unique symbolic design elements that honor the synagogue’s history and culture.

They recently hosted a “wall signing” event where future church members attended a short worship service and shared messages of hope on an interior wall before it is finished. We were honored to attend and to get a sneak peek, along with the Crossroads Campus Pastor Chad Glover, of people worshipping in this space. We look forward to this project being completed in January 2023 and are grateful to play a role, along with our partners at Mantel Teter, in bringing this new worship space to life.
